I am calling 2026 the year of keeping it real

This is my goal of 2026, since I don’t believe in New Year’s resolutions. They just seem like a chance for your inner critic to bully you.

But I do believe in setting goals and having aspirations.

My goal is to let go of the fake, the illusion and the flimsy, synthetic fabrications and put my attention on what’s real.

The fake things are out. Here’s my list.

  • Fake food, GMO, highly processed chemical creations that have good ‘mouth feel’ (ick…) but offer no real nutrition only inflammation of the everything
  • Doom scrolling, fake social media, boring AI posts that say nothing and other forms of brain rot
  • Stupid TV that is meant to numb and dumb (reality TV, I am looking at you….unless you are the British Bakeoff…)
  • Fake spiritualty, TikTok gurus, and toxic positivity and spiritual bypassing dressed up as universal laws
  • People pleasing, keeping quiet, saying yes when I feel a no. A big no to overworking, hustle culture over achieving without celebrating my wins
  • Numbing out and shutting down when things are uncomfortable, when I could be leaning in

Real is what’s in this year. Being authentic and choosing to live in the grittier reality of what IS. It’s all about slowing down, creating more space and living maybe a little bit more simply.

  • Organic, homemade, few ingredient food. The simpler the better. Doesn’t mean that it can’t be tasty, though right?
  • Reading books, watching TV that adds to my life and uplifts me, learning new things including my beloved grandma hobbies- gardening, doing puzzles, feeding the birds and staring out the window and watching the grass grow
  • Dancing, yoga, Pilates and walking and find all the other ways to do joyful movement
  • Having deep conversations and real connections- my friend group may get smaller, but it will be richer
  • Saying no, speaking my truth (kindly and with compassion) and letting other people manage their own selves too. Leaning into the difficult conversations and asking for grace
  • And the real spiritual work- meditation, shadow work, therapy, somatic and energy work and not looking to gurus for the answers- it’s an inside job

What’s valuable now is free space in my calendar, rest and relaxation and time to settle my nervous system before the next thing comes along.

I am longing for more quiet time and space to breath and to feel myself so that my intuition has time speak to me.

I wish for a slower pace so that I have time to process my feelings and consider my needs and desires before committing.

This doesn’t mean I am going radical here. Radical is out too. No radical minimalism, hard core diets, strict spiritual practices. Nope.

It’s all about ease, pleasure, joyful creativity and wholeness. It’s choosing myself over the expectations of others and choosing love over fear. So you might find me less available, but I am going to be a lot happier!

What is your 2026 going to look like?
