Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween

It’s such a fun time of year and it is my favorite holiday.  Is it in fact a holy day? It certainly is for witches! And there is deep truth in the lore that Halloween is the day where the veils are thinnest and if we want to connect to our beloved ancestors, it is easier to do that now. There are reasons why the Day of the Dead is tomorrow.

Sensitives will feel a shift in energy, there is a lot of extra psychic energy around, so it’s an excellent time to do divination work. Pull some cards and pay attention to your dreams. The energy is so strong now that even people who are not usually sensitive in this way experience things.

I love how this time of year people really get in touch with their own “shadow.” These are the parts of us humans that are instinctive, survival based and powerful. As we become more and more civilized, we reject these pieces and push them into the shadow. It’s good to acknowledge that we have them (but not act on them- yikes…) and Halloween gives us a chance to play with these aspects in a fun and (generally) safe way. We dress up as them for Halloween. Who hasn’t wanted to dress up as a prostitute, a zombie or a serial killer? Maybe all in one?

We have a titillating, voyeuristic relationship with the shadow that most of is satisfy by watching other people act it out on TV. (Criminal Minds, American Horror Story, The Haunting of Hill House- that is just me! What are you watching?) This allows us time to “play” with the darker aspects of the human psyche and enjoy them without acting them out.

I remember when I was little how much I loved the “bad” characters in the Disney movies. Cinderella was boring to me, but I was fascinated with Maleficent. The more “good” we try to be, the more we push the “bad” into the closet. Then is can burst out in ways that really cause problems for us. Road rage, snapping at people we really love, and worse. (He was such a nice man, everyone loved him. He was a boy scout leader and sang in the church choir. Who could believe he was secretly an zombie, vampire, ax murdering, evil clown, alien from Planet X….)

What we don’t own, owns us.

So own it! (But don’t act on it- that is bad for your karma…) We all have an inner Viking that wants to solve our problems with a sword and an inner slut. Our “lower self” is greedy, horny, angry, rebellious, profane and vain. (That is me again…. You?) It wants what is wants right now. It’s fun to play with that energy and the more we play in non-harmful ways, the less likely we are to act on it in real life.

Love the lower self. It’s juicy, joyful and full of power that we can access and use in appropriate ways if we harness it rather than deny and repress it. Especially you spiritual people- just sayin…

Have fun and Happy Halloween!
