Happy Independence Day to my fellow Americans

Independence Day Constitution

It’s a strange holiday this year, no doubt about it. Fireworks are cancelled or really limited. Parties and backyard BBQ’s will be small and intimate if they happen at all.

It’s hard to find an open beach and most people are still social distancing here in New England. The town parade and band stand concert are cancelled.

There is different spirit to this year no doubt. And for me, it’s about internal and spiritual independence. I am getting free on the inside, liberating myself from negative thinking and choosing to practice mindfulness as a lifelong quest for spiritual liberation.

And yet, as a country, we have an amazing opportunity to take our collective independence to a whole new level.

Let’s go for interdependence.

This is where we acknowledge the sovereignty of every individual person as sacred. AND choose to love each other, care for each other and the honor the importance of our collective experience.

We can not survive without each other.

We can not prosper without each other.

And none of us can live without honoring and acknowledging our planet as the source of our life.

If we are to hold these truths as self evident, let us celebrate our Interdependence Day.

Amen!

PS- In lieu of a BBQ, I am watching the movie Independence Day to honor a family tradition, just to remind myself that although a pandemic is bad, it could all be worse. 😛 (Miss you Grayson Gallifrey Kempster!)
