Happy Winter Solstice!

Happy Winter Solstice

It’s the longest night of the year, here in the Northern Hemisphere. The pendulum swing of the sun has reached darkest. We feel that in our human psyche too, the dark bares down on us like a weight.

Back in the day, we learned to use fire, prayer and celebration to keep the light burning through the darkness.

We must never let our light go out. When the darkness beats at the door, we can dance, love, pray and throw another log on the yule fire.

That is what the yule fire was for, by the way- to keep the light alive on the darkest night. And to celebrate the passing of another year with all its travails and its accomplishments. Yuletide was a party, the indomitable spirit of humanity feasting, signing and celebrating, thumbing it’s collective nose at the encroaching shadow.

This night is a good night to gather with friends, which is what I will be doing, toasting each other’s accomplishments, sorting through the dross of the year and deciding what needs be burned in the fire as well as what can be held onto and treasured.

Tonight is a good night to honor your light and how you choose to express it in the world.

Added to everyone else’s we have an epic bonfire. And have some fun too, since making merry only adds another log to the yule fire.

We need your light, so go get your shine on.
