Walking my Dog in the Woods

Cayote

I was walking my dog in the woods early this morning and we saw a dog running along the path without a leash. I kept expecting to see a person walking behind the dog, since it’s a place where a lot of people take their dogs off the leash.

It was a weird looking dog.

It stopped and looked at us, from maybe a 20 yards away. It was close enough that I could smell it’s musky smell.

My puppy’s ruff came up and she hid behind my legs, right about the time that my brain registered that there would be no person coming along behind it since it was in fact a coyote.

We all looked at each other a bit. And then it yipped at us and ran off into the woods.

My little Willow stood her ground, and squared off to it, brave and loyal little soul that she is. All I could think of of was “Ruh roh… What is going to happen today?”

Coyote medicine is the trickster. It’s an energy that shows up for me a lot. You know, slip on a banana peel, fall on your arse and get a new perspective on the world from down on the ground.

Willow and I are still waiting to see how Coyote shows up today to remind me that the Cosmic Joke still exists and that the joke is always on me. Coyote always does laugh will you and not at you, which is a consolation.

At least it will be entertaining.
