Tide of Depression

stem the tide of depression and hopelessness

What can we do to stem the tide of depression and hopelessness in the world right now? It’s so sad to hear about those who have chosen to take their own lives. We are bewildered, saddened or angry about things that we can’t fully understand.

Or else we know all too well what that kind of hopelessness and despair feels like.

Haven’t you somewhere in the small, chill hours of the night, whispered that thought into your pillowcase? “I don’t want to be here anymore…”

And then morning comes, the sun rises and energy shifts. We move back into the stream of life with our eyes on the horizon and our feet on our path.

Except when we can’t.

It’s a hard world to live in- beautiful but tough. It’s made for warriors and us sensitive types can’t always stand up to the suffering laden, bootcamp energy of this place. My heart goes out to all who have trouble rising with the sun and who need to stay in the shadow.

I can’t pretend to know why someone would choose to end their own life, but statistics show us that it is happening more and more. It’s a complex, many layered issue with no easy solution.

But I do think talking and listening helps. Maybe we can all make an effort to connect a little deeper, to turn towards people on the edges of life rather than away from them. We could open our hearts, sink our feet into the earth and show up with warm hearted presence and be there.

This day and all days- may those who are suffering find peace, love and connection in life.

May we learn to love ourselves exactly as we are in this moment. Fully, passionately and with fierce loyalty to our beloved selves.

May those that are already full of love spread it around, and then some.

And may we all choose to dream a happier dream together.
